Create and switch workspaces, and the workspace limit

Create more workspaces, switch between them, and learn how many you can own: 1 on Free, 2 with Starter and 3 with Team, based on your best paid plan.

  1. Open the sidebarAt the top of the sidebar, find the Workspace selector.
  2. Create a workspaceChoose "+ New workspace" below the selector, enter a Workspace name and Time zone, then "Create workspace and add a monitor".
  3. Switch workspacesPick another workspace in the Workspace selector.

A workspace holds monitors, alerts, status pages, members and its own plan. Agencies and freelancers often keep one workspace per client or per environment. You can be a member of any number of workspaces; the limit below only counts workspaces you own.

  • The limit follows the best paid plan among the workspaces you own. One Team workspace lets you own 3 workspaces in total; the others can stay on Free.
  • Trials do not count. A workspace on the 14-day Team trial counts as Free for this limit.
  • A paid workspace whose payment failed keeps counting until its grace period ends and it moves to Free limits.
  • Existing workspaces are never removed. If your allowance shrinks, for example after cancelling, everything keeps working; you just cannot create another workspace until you are under the limit again.
  • Workspaces other people own and invited you to do not count.

Create a workspace

  1. At the top of the sidebar, below the Workspace selector, choose + New workspace.
  2. Enter a Workspace name and a Time zone.
  3. Choose Create workspace and add a monitor. You become its owner, and it starts on the Free plan.

When you are at the limit, the sidebar shows Workspace limit reached (N of M) with an Upgrade link instead.

Switch between workspaces

Pick a workspace in the Workspace selector at the top of the sidebar. The sidebar footer shows your role and the workspace's plan.

Plans are per workspace

Each workspace has its own plan, limits and billing. Upgrading one workspace does not upgrade the others; it only raises how many workspaces you can own. Monitors, seats and status pages are never pooled across workspaces.

Troubleshooting

  • "You already own as many workspaces as your plan allows": upgrade a workspace you own to Starter or Team in Billing, or delete a workspace you no longer need under Settings → Workspace.
  • I started a Team trial but still cannot create a workspace: trials do not raise the limit. Subscribe to a paid plan.
  • I want to hand a workspace to someone else: ownership cannot be transferred from the dashboard. Contact support.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many workspaces can I have on the Free plan?

You can own 1 workspace while all your workspaces are on Free. Being a member of other people's workspaces is unlimited.

Does the Team trial let me create more workspaces?

No. Trials count as Free for the workspace limit. A paid Starter or Team plan raises it to 2 or 3.

What happens to my extra workspaces if I cancel?

Nothing is removed. Existing workspaces keep working; you just cannot create new ones while you are over the limit.
