Is it down? Check any website instantly

Find out if a website is down for everyone or just you. We request it from an independent server and show the HTTP status, response time and SSL certificate.

What this website checker tests

One request from an independent server answers the most common question during an outage: is it the website, or is it me?

Reachability

DNS resolution, TCP connection and an HTTP GET request, following up to five redirects.

HTTP status

Up means a 2xx or 3xx final response within 10 seconds; 4xx and 5xx responses count as down.

Response time

Total time plus DNS, connect, TLS handshake and time-to-first-byte, to show where slowness comes from.

SSL certificate

Whether the HTTPS certificate is trusted and valid for the name, and how many days until it expires.

Website down for you but up here?

  1. Reload without cache: a hard refresh (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R) or a private window rules out stale files.
  2. Try another network: switch to mobile data or turn off your VPN or proxy.
  3. Flush DNS: your computer or router may still point at an old address after a migration.
  4. Check extensions and firewalls: ad blockers and corporate filters can block whole domains.

Down for everyone?

  • HTTP 5xx means the server or application failed; check hosting status and recent deployments.
  • Timeouts point to an overloaded server, a firewall dropping traffic or a network outage.
  • Does not resolve usually means expired domain registration or broken DNS records.
  • Invalid certificate means browsers will block visitors even though the server is running.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a website is down for everyone or just me?

Enter the address above. Uptime Tracker requests the page from its own server in Europe, independent of your network, browser and DNS. If our check succeeds but the site does not load for you, the problem is most likely on your side: your connection, DNS resolver, VPN, firewall or browser cache.

What does this website checker test?

It makes one HTTP GET request to the address, follows up to five redirects and records the final HTTP status code, the total response time, DNS, connect, TLS and time-to-first-byte timings, and the TLS certificate’s validity and expiry date. A site counts as up when the final response is a 2xx or 3xx status within 10 seconds.

Why does a website say it is up here but not load for me?

Common causes are a local DNS cache pointing at an old address, an ISP or corporate network blocking the site, a VPN or proxy, a browser extension, or a regional outage that does not affect our checking location. Try another network or a mobile connection, and flush your DNS cache.

Why does the result say it was cached?

To protect websites from being flooded with requests, a result is reused for up to one minute. If the same address was checked in the last minute, you see that result and its timestamp instead of a new request.

Can I get alerted automatically when my website goes down?

Yes. This tool checks once, on demand. An Uptime Tracker monitor checks your site every 30 seconds to 5 minutes, confirms failures with a re-check and alerts you by email, SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Telegram or webhooks. The Free plan includes 2 monitors.

Is there a limit on how many websites I can check?

The free checker allows a few checks per minute from each network so that it cannot be misused against other sites. It only checks public websites on standard web ports and never returns the page content.
