Slack alerts are available on every plan, including Free. Uptime Tracker posts to a Slack channel through an incoming webhook, so no Slack app permissions beyond that one channel are needed.

Create the incoming webhook in Slack

  1. Go to api.slack.com/apps and choose Create New App, then From scratch. Name it, for example "Uptime alerts", and pick your Slack workspace.
  2. Open Incoming Webhooks and switch it on.
  3. Choose Add New Webhook to Workspace, pick the channel, and allow access.
  4. Copy the webhook URL. It starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/.

Treat the URL as a secret: anyone who has it can post to that channel.

Add it in Uptime Tracker

Go to Integrations, find Slack under Add a destination and choose Set up Slack. Enter a Name (shown in rules and the delivery log), paste the Slack incoming webhook URL and choose Add destination. Slack destinations are active immediately; there is no separate verification step. Use Send test to make sure the message arrives.

What the messages contain

Alerts show the monitor name, a redacted target and the failure reason when a monitor goes down, and a recovery message when it comes back. If you use repeat reminders, reminder messages are posted to the same channel until the incident is acknowledged or recovers.

Several channels

Add one Slack destination per channel. On Starter and higher, use routing rules to send, for example, database monitors to #db-alerts and everything tagged checkout to #payments.

Troubleshooting

  • If the Slack app or webhook is removed, Slack rejects the request. After a permanent delivery failure the destination is disabled with a reason, and the workspace is told through its other destinations.
  • The URL cannot be edited in place. To move to a new channel, create a new destination, then delete the old one.
  • Check the Deliveries tab for the last HTTP status and error.

Mattermost and Rocket.Chat use Slack-compatible incoming webhooks and are available as their own destination types on Starter.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Slack available on the Free plan?

Yes. Slack, Discord, Telegram, email and generic webhooks are all included on Free.

Can I alert different Slack channels for different monitors?

Yes. Add one destination per channel and use routing rules, available on Starter and higher, to decide which monitors go where.

Why was my Slack destination disabled?

Slack returned a permanent error, usually because the webhook or app was removed. Create a new webhook and destination.
