Google Chat alerts are available on the Starter and Team plans. Uptime Tracker posts a short text message to a Google Chat space through an incoming webhook. There is no verification step: the destination is active as soon as you save it.

Before you start

  • A workspace on Starter or Team (or the Team trial). On Free, the Google Chat card in Integrations shows Needs Starter.
  • A Google Workspace business or enterprise account. Personal Gmail accounts cannot add webhooks, and your Google Workspace administrator must allow incoming webhooks.
  • Google Chat in a web browser. Webhooks cannot be added from the Chat mobile app.

Get the webhook URL in Google Chat

  1. Open chat.google.com and go to the space that should receive alerts (create a dedicated space such as "Uptime alerts" if you like).
  2. Next to the space name, open the menu (the small arrow) and choose Apps & integrations.
  3. Choose Add webhooks. Enter a name such as "Uptime Tracker" (the avatar URL is optional) and choose Save.
  4. Next to the new webhook, open More and choose Copy link.

The URL looks like https://chat.googleapis.com/v1/spaces/AAAA…/messages?key=…&token=…. Keep the whole URL, including the key and token parameters, and treat it as a secret: anyone who has it can post to the space.

Add it in Uptime Tracker

  1. Go to Integrations. The Destinations tab opens.
  2. Under Add a destination, find Google Chat and choose Set up Google Chat.
  3. Enter a Name (shown in routing rules and the delivery log) and paste the Google Chat webhook URL.
  4. Leave Personal destination — only notify me when I am on call unticked for a shared team space.
  5. Choose Add destination, then Send test in Configured destinations.

What you receive

A bold title such as DOWN: Checkout API or RECOVERED: Checkout API, the time the outage or recovery was confirmed, and the redacted target (for HTTP monitors only the host). Reminders and acknowledgements are posted too when routing rules or escalation produce them.

Troubleshooting

  • "The endpoint is not a valid google_chat URL": the URL must start with https://chat.googleapis.com/v1/spaces/. Copy it again with Copy link rather than from the browser address bar.
  • No Add webhooks option: your Google Workspace administrator has disabled incoming webhooks, or you are using a personal account or the mobile app.
  • The test never arrives: open the Deliveries tab. An HTTP 401, 403 or 404 means the webhook was deleted or the URL is incomplete; the destination is then disabled with a reason. Create a new webhook, add a new destination and delete the old one.
  • The URL cannot be edited in place. To move to another space, add a new destination, then delete the old one.
