UptimeRobot alternative: Uptime Tracker

Comparing UptimeRobot and Uptime Tracker: free plans, status pages, team alerts, on-call and incident tools, and how to switch with CSV import and the REST API.

Updated By the Uptime Tracker team

Summary

UptimeRobot is a widely used uptime monitor with a free plan, many monitor types and status pages, and it is a sound choice if it already covers your needs. Uptime Tracker is a hosted alternative that bundles status pages, incident timelines, routing rules and, on Team, on-call rotations and escalation into flat workspace plans. Pick Uptime Tracker if you want those team workflows at a fixed price; stay with UptimeRobot if you rely on multi-location checks or features we do not offer yet.

Quick summary

Uptime Tracker is a hosted uptime monitoring service with a free plan, built-in status pages and incident management, and it is a reasonable alternative to UptimeRobot for small teams that want alerting, status communication and on-call in one product. UptimeRobot is a well-known, mature service that offers a free plan and paid tiers, and many teams are happy with it. The right choice depends on which workflows you need around the checks themselves, not just the check count.

This page compares the two fairly. For UptimeRobot's current plan limits and prices, check UptimeRobot's pricing page directly; we deliberately do not quote their numbers here because they change.

What Uptime Tracker offers

Uptime Tracker monitors websites, APIs, TCP ports, DNS records and cron jobs, and opens an incident only after a failure is confirmed. A single failed check does not page you: a monitor is marked down after two consecutive failures and back up after two consecutive successes. Probe or platform errors are shown as "unknown" instead of being counted as your downtime.

  • Free ($0): 2 standard monitors at a 5-minute interval, 5 heartbeat monitors, 1 status page, 1 login seat, email, Slack, Discord, Telegram and signed webhook alerts. Commercial use is allowed.
  • Starter ($9/month or $90/year): 10 monitors down to 60-second checks, 10 heartbeat monitors, 3 status pages with custom domains, 2 seats, SMS from prepaid credit, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, Pushover, ntfy, Gotify, Mattermost and Rocket.Chat, routing rules, ping, domain expiry and advanced HTTP checks.
  • Team ($49/month or $490/year): 50 monitors down to 30-second checks, 50 heartbeat monitors, 10 status pages including private password-protected pages, 10 seats plus 20 read-only guest viewers, PagerDuty, on-call rotations, escalation policies, monitor dependencies, gRPC, SMTP/IMAP and multi-step API workflows.

Every new owner can try Team free for 14 days without a card; the trial ends on Free automatically. Annual billing costs 10 times the monthly price. Downgrading never deletes data: excess monitors are paused and excess status pages archived.

Other building blocks are available on every plan: a hosted status page with email subscribers, one-off maintenance windows, CSV export of monitors, incidents and check results, TOTP two-factor sign-in, and a REST API with an OpenAPI spec and scoped tokens. See alerts and incident management for details.

Current limitations, stated plainly: checks run from a single probe location today, with additional probe regions planned. There are no voice-call alerts, no browser or synthetic (scripted click-through) checks, and heartbeat monitors accept expected intervals from 15 seconds up to 1 hour, so daily or weekly jobs are not a fit yet. HTTPS monitors show the certificate expiry date and alert when a certificate is expired or invalid, but there are no separate advance expiry warning emails yet.

Where UptimeRobot is a strong choice

UptimeRobot is a strong choice if you want an established, widely adopted product with a long track record. Its public pages list a broad range of monitor types, including HTTP, keyword, port, ping, DNS, UDP, API, and SSL and domain expiry monitoring, along with status pages on every plan and location-specific monitoring on paid tiers.

  • If you need checks from several geographic locations today, UptimeRobot advertises location-specific monitoring, while Uptime Tracker currently runs from one probe location.
  • If you need advance SSL certificate expiry alerts, UptimeRobot lists SSL expiry monitoring; Uptime Tracker shows the expiry date and alerts on expired or invalid certificates, but does not send advance warnings yet.
  • If your existing setup works and your team knows it, the switching cost may not be worth it.

Switching from UptimeRobot

You can move from UptimeRobot by recreating your monitors through CSV import or the API, then recreating alert destinations and status pages. There is no direct UptimeRobot importer today, so plan for a short manual step.

  1. Create a free workspace (passwordless sign-in by email link or code) and choose a workspace name and time zone.
  2. Build a list of your monitors (name, URL or host, check type) and import it with CSV import, or create them with the REST API or the monctl CLI. The help center describes the CSV format.
  3. Recreate alert destinations such as email, Slack, Discord, Telegram or webhooks. Additional email addresses confirm through a link before they receive alerts.
  4. Recreate your status page and map its components to the new monitors. If you use a custom domain (Starter and up), add the TXT and CNAME records; the HTTPS certificate is issued automatically.
  5. Run both services in parallel for a few days, compare alerts, then retire the old monitors.

Historical uptime data from UptimeRobot does not transfer; your history in Uptime Tracker starts from the first check.

Bottom line

Choose Uptime Tracker if you want monitoring, status pages, incidents and team alerting under one flat workspace price, and a single probe location is acceptable for now. Choose UptimeRobot if you depend on multi-location checks, advance SSL expiry alerts or simply prefer an established tool you already know. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Uptime Tracker a free alternative to UptimeRobot?

Yes. Uptime Tracker has a free plan with 2 monitors at a 5-minute interval, 5 heartbeat monitors, 1 status page and email, Slack, Discord, Telegram and webhook alerts, and commercial use is allowed. Compare it with UptimeRobot's current free plan on their pricing page.

Can I import my UptimeRobot monitors?

There is no dedicated UptimeRobot importer. You can recreate monitors in bulk with CSV import, the REST API or the monctl CLI, then recreate alert destinations and status pages.

Does Uptime Tracker check from multiple locations like UptimeRobot?

Not yet. Uptime Tracker currently runs checks from a single probe location and confirms failures with consecutive re-checks. Additional probe regions are planned.

Does Uptime Tracker include on-call scheduling?

Yes, on the Team plan ($49/month): on-call rotations with an iCal feed, escalation policies and PagerDuty integration. Starter adds routing rules and repeat reminders.

Will I lose my uptime history if I switch?

History stored in UptimeRobot does not transfer. Uptime Tracker starts recording from your first check, so consider exporting reports from your old tool before closing the account.
