How the prepaid wallet works
The wallet holds money, not a message count. In Billing → Prepaid alert wallet you can:
- Buy an SMS package of 50, 100 or 250 messages. Choose the Country you mostly send SMS to and the page shows the package price for that country. The package adds its price to the wallet, which is then spent per message at each destination country's rate, so it also covers other countries.
- Add a Custom top-up amount (USD) between $10 and $500.
- Set a Monthly spending cap (USD) to limit SMS spending, or leave it empty for no cap.
Prices are shown per country before you buy and before you add a number. Adding funds and sending SMS need a paid plan.
Add a phone number
In Integrations, choose Set up SMS. Pick the Phone number's country, then enter the Phone number in international format with the country code, for example +14155550123; spaces and dashes are fine. The form shows the cost of each SMS to that country.
After Add destination, a confirmation code is sent by SMS. It is charged like any other message. Choose Enter SMS code, type the 8-character code and choose Verify. If the code expires, use Resend code.
When you are charged
- Each message is charged at the destination country's rate, only when the SMS provider accepts it.
- If the wallet is empty, that alert is not sent by SMS. The destination stays enabled, and your other destinations still receive the alert.
- Nothing is charged automatically beyond your plan. The wallet only spends money you added.
Keep SMS for what matters
SMS costs money per message, so most teams send it only for important monitors or outside office hours. Use routing rules to send, for example, only monitors tagged critical to SMS, or only between 22:00 and 07:00. On Team, add the number as a personal destination so it is used only when you are on call.
The wallet activity table in Billing lists every top-up and charge.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an SMS alert cost?
It depends on the destination country. The exact price per message is shown in Billing and in the SMS setup form before you buy or add a number.
What happens if my SMS credit runs out?
The SMS for that alert is not sent and the destination stays enabled. Your other destinations still receive the alert. Top up the wallet to resume SMS.
Do you offer phone-call alerts?
No. Voice-call alerts are not offered. Use SMS, push apps such as Pushover or ntfy, or PagerDuty on the Team plan.
Is SMS available on the Free plan?
No. SMS alerts and adding funds to the wallet need Starter or Team.
