Pushover delivers push notifications to iOS, Android and desktop devices. It is a good way to get a loud alert on your phone without paying per message. Pushover destinations are available on the Starter and Team plans and need no verification step.
Before you start
- A workspace on Starter or Team.
- A Pushover account with the Pushover app installed on the devices that should ring.
Get the two keys from Pushover
- Sign in at
pushover.net. The dashboard shows Your User Key, 30 letters and digits. To alert several people at once, create a delivery group on Pushover and use the group key instead. - On the same page, choose Create an Application/API Token. Enter a name such as "Uptime Tracker", accept Pushover's terms and create it.
- Copy the application's API Token/Key, also 30 letters and digits.
Add it in Uptime Tracker
- Go to Integrations, find Pushover and choose Set up Pushover.
- Enter a Name, the User or group key and the Application API token. The token is stored encrypted and never shown again.
- For a phone that should ring only during your on-call shifts, tick Personal destination — only notify me when I am on call. Personal destinations are used by escalation policies (Team), never by routing rules.
- Choose Add destination, then Send test.
What you receive
Down, reminder and escalation alerts are sent with Pushover's high priority, which bypasses your quiet hours in the Pushover app. Recoveries, acknowledgements and tests are sent at normal priority. Emergency priority (repeating until confirmed in Pushover) is not used.
Troubleshooting
- "Pushover destinations need the 30-character user or group key": you probably pasted the application token or an email address into the key field. The user key is on the Pushover dashboard.
- "The referenced secret is not a valid pushover credential": the application token must be exactly 30 letters and digits, with no spaces.
- The test does not arrive: check the Deliveries tab. If Pushover rejects the token or key, the error is shown there; create a new destination with the correct values and delete the old one.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pushover free?
Uptime Tracker does not charge per Pushover message. Pushover itself has its own one-time app licence; check pushover.net for its terms.
Will a Pushover alert wake me up at night?
Down alerts use Pushover's high priority, which bypasses quiet hours in the Pushover app. Your phone's own do-not-disturb settings still apply.
Can I page a whole team?
Yes. Create a delivery group on Pushover and enter its group key instead of a user key.
